It doesn\u2019t take an expert to know that fitness is an important aspect to anyone\u2019s health, however it can be exponentially more integral to a person on a cancer journey. Fitness can help from prevention through treatment and survivorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cancerhopenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/1.png?resize=800%2C450&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13063\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to The National Cancer Institute, \u201cThere is strong evidence that higher levels of physical activity are linked to lower risk of several types of cancer.\u201d<strong><sup>1<\/sup><\/strong> Fitness can lower your risk of cancers like, Bladder, Breast, Colon, Endometrial, Esophageal, Kidney and Stomach. For more information the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.gov\/about-cancer\/causes-prevention\/risk\/obesity\/physical-activity-fact-sheet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Physical Activity and Cancer Fact Sheet<\/a> is a great source on how activities effect the individual cancers listed above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Going through cancer treatment can wreak havoc on your body and mind. While fitness is definitely not a cure-all, it can help alleviate many symptoms. There is \u201cstrong evidence that moderate-intensity\u00a0aerobic\u00a0training and\/or resistance exercise during and after cancer treatment can reduce anxiety, depressive symptoms, and fatigue and improve health-related\u00a0quality of life\u00a0and physical function\u201d<strong><sup>1 <\/sup><\/strong>Another great tip to help relieve symptoms like anxiety without having to exert too much at times it feels like you can barely move is going for a walk outside, \u201cMy tip for staying healthy\u2026 get outside for at least 15 minutes every single day. It\u2019s good for the body, mind, and soul&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cancerhopenetwork.org\/blog\/health-coach-corner-serenity-soup-in-the-time-of-covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(Blakey, 2020)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cancerhopenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2.png?resize=800%2C450&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13064\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As your journey moves into survivorship, the importance of physical activity does not lessen. Fitness can help you get back to feeling like yourself again after treatment. \u201cBefore cancer I was quite fit.
